Then Set, the strong one, the son of Nut, said "As for me, I am Set, the strongest of the Divine Company. Every day I slay the enemy of Ra when I stand at the helm of the Barque of Millions of Years, which no other god dare do."
((Fiction journal! RP! This is just
djanewty taking liberties with ancient Egyptian gods again. And I apologize well in advance for Set's personality. He's frequently weird and gross and awful.
Set (or Seth, Setesh, Sutekh, etc.) played a complicated role in ancient Egyptian religion; his violent and transgressive nature make him an opposite of the idealized order. He was associated with storms, the desert, chaos, and foreign lands and people. He was the enemy of Horus, and the murder of Osiris. However, he was also a companion to the sun god Re; and the Egyptian gods relied on Set's strength every night to protect the sun from being devoured by the serpent Apep. There were places and periods in which he was a very popular god, looked to for help.
I occasionally use Michael Caine for a human-looking Set. Yeah, he's not Egyptian; but Seth was associated with pale northern foreigners, and besides, Michael Caine makes good faces. >_>
Here is a fairly handy page about the god Set!))
